Far from Frivalous

One of the most interesting things that I have found out recently is the ancient history behind a headdress but these days its commonly known as a headband. The existence of a gold leaf headdress with lapis dazzling and carnelian a beautiful piece dating back to the civilisation of Mesopotamia. This is dated to be 4500 years old and part of the style found in the city Ur. Apparently, Ur was a sumerian city by the river Tigris.

After seeing this I thought..

How would this have looked on your head?

Could this be an accessory over your shoulders, like a lengthly necklace?

How would this be twisted as part of your hair?

I found out that a carnelian is a semi-precious stone that was used frequently by the Egyptians of all social classes, through the dynastic period of Egypt until the Roman period. In Egypt the carnelian stone is widely used for amulets, beads, small figurines and inlay works and it was very sought after despite how popular it is.

Another part of the description of this headdress is lapis dazzling.

See 2 images of carnelian below

 This is Lapis.

Lapis dazzling is a gemstone that represented status and elegance, a vibrant shade of blue with small golden flecks of pyrite. Pyrite is a metallic luster, a distinctive cubic crystal structure, and can be found in a wide variety of rocks.

The great consideration for the construction of this headdress seems to be what a person of high status would have adorned her or himself with.

I see the great regard, the prestige and its definitely built to last for all these centuries.

This brief look at the emphasis placed on each part of the design of the headdresses and direct us to intentional and important elements bring this to life on deeper levels.

With all this in mind, the statement we make when a headdress is accessorized is unique to us as well as the parts used to bring the design to life.

How does an accessory bring your clothing to life?

Versatility was the running theme displayed on the head, the hair and the forehead. These are examples of what headbands could be worn and inspired the different ways the Pink & chain headband can be worn in this video. I wondered…

Is the various ways we express ourselves still just a a fashion hack?
